Who is 22-yr-old Suchitra Sharma From Jammu, Gets Rank 146 In UPSC Civil Services

At the age of 22, Suchitra Sharma, a small stature resident of Salehar village in Bishnah tehsil of Jammu district, has proved that anything is impossible by securing 146th rank in the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) Civil Services Examination 2020. He is son of teacher parents Madan Lal and Ritu Sharma, had a dream since childhood that he would grow up to become an administrative officer.

Suchitra Sharma started his studies in science in 11th and after passing 12th he got admission in GGM Science College Jammu. But for this he had to go 30 kilometers away from home and then come back the same way. Traveling 60 kms every day used to break his body, but he did not let fatigue overtake his dreams. Along with this, he also obtained coaching from a local IAS Academy in Gandhi Nagar area of Jammu but mainly relied only on self-study.

He did his graduation from GGM Science College, Jammu with main subjects- Botany, Zoology and Geology, securing 86 % marks during 2020 and appeared in the preliminary exams of IAS just five days after his BSc Final exams and achieved this feat in first attempt. Suchiter did his schooling from Army School, Rattnuchak with 94.8 % marks in 12th.

According to online media reports, Suchitra said that his final graduation paper was on 27th September 2020 and the prelims exam was on 4th October, just six days later. There were very few days to prepare, but he was confident that he would succeed. The exam went well. Geology was an optional subject. Main exam and interview also went well. He expected his rank to be less than 70. When the result came today the rank was 146. Right now he is not satisfied with this and want to try again to improve his rank.

Suchitra told to media agency that our neighbor Pakistan always keeps doing nefarious things on the border, despite this he focused on his studies. To avoid stress, he used to sit with his parents and talk.

Though Suchiter described his cousin sister, Praysi Sharma as his source of inspiration who had qualified IAS during 2014, yet he gave main credit to his parents as guiding force and main support to him during his studies. The boy said from 12th onwards, he was very clear in his ambition and started self study for IAS since then.

Suchitra loves listening to Punjabi songs and traveling on a bike. He says that this is what he does in his spare time.

With the success of Suchitra, there is an atmosphere of celebration not only in his house but in the whole village. No matter how, for the first time someone from his border village has achieved this position. Father Madan Lal, mother Ritu Sharma and younger sister Avani Sharma are also very happy. There is an influx of people congratulating his house.
