Chairman of JKSSB Zubair Ahmed told The Tribune that the selections were cancelled to adjust the “waiting list” candidates as these “selected” candidates had failed to fulfil the “deficiencies”.

When asked whether these selected candidates had managed selection on fake certificates, he said the job of the JKSSB was confined only to holding recruitment on the available certificates. “The onus is on the appointing authorities to check the authenticity of all certificates, including the category and educational qualification,” he said.

Sources said some candidates had managed their selection on the basis of fake certificates.

“As some candidates have already lodged a written complaint with the Crime Branch of the J&K Police to probe how non-ST candidates had managed ST certificates to get selected for various post, many such candidates have decided not to submit fake category certificates,” said the sources, adding, “Fearing their fake certificates would be exposed during investigation by agencies, these candidates decided not to submit the required certificates.”

Meanwhile, the JKSSB on Tuesday approved the cancellation of recommendations/ candidature of 71 candidates to pave the way for the waiting list candidates.

The public relations officer of the JKSSB said the recommendations of the candidates had been withheld for failing to complete “deficiencies” within the stipulated time. He said the candidates were required to furnish the clarifications, deficient documents in respect of their candidature, but they failed to do so, despite repeated notices by the board.
