Jammu & Kashmir government has a provision to financially assist marriages of poor girls of the state. A scheme called the State Marriage Assistance Scheme envisages one-time financial assistance of Rs 25000 and 5 gm gold from the Social Welfare Department for girls living below the poverty line who may not find themselves in a position to marry.
To avail the scheme, the girl should be
Above 18 years of age
Identified as poor in the survey list by the concerned District Development Commisioners and District Social Welfare Officers.
The scheme was launched in the state in 2015 to provide the poor girls financial support and help them get married.Around 6,589 beneficiaries have been brought under the ambit of the scheme til August 31, 2017.
Revised timelines have been set for the relevant authorities to dispose of cases under the scheme. The deadlines are:
- 3 working days for the District Social Welfare Officer (DSWO)
- 6 working days for the sanctioning authority (Deputy Commissioner)
- 5 working days for the Director, Finance, Social Welfare Department
